Peyriac de Mer

Don't be fooled by its name, Peyriac-de-Mer is not a seaside village. The Mediterranean is close by as the crow flies!) but the water around the village is that of the lagoon. It is a calm, soothing spot inhabited by pink flamingos and wild ducks and birds all year round. You’ll fall in love with the pretty village built around a charming square where you can sit in the sunshine outside restaurants and cafés, just a stone's throw from the town hall and the church! The area around the town has some great vineyards and wineries, many of which are organic.

Route 20 - The Wine Route

Albas

Albas is a small, quiet village in the Corbières region of France, known for its unique geological features, including a natural syncline and dinosaur egg discoveries, alongside its vineyards and proximity to hiking trails and historical sites. The village offers a tranquil atmosphere with occasional community events, like the Tuesday shared meal, and serves as a base for exploring the surrounding Corbières Massif and its diverse landscape of scrubland, forests, and wineries.

Duilhac-sous-Peyrepeteuse

Duilhac-sous-Peyrepertuse is a picturesque village in the Occitanie region of southern France, known primarily as the gateway to the magnificent Cathar fortress, Château de Peyrepertuse. The village itself is built on a rocky spur and overlooks a small valley filled with vineyards. Location: The village is nestled in the High Corbières mountains in the Aude department, surrounded by scrubland and vineyards. Château de Peyrepertuse: The medieval castle dominates the skyline, perched high on a limestone ridge about 800 meters above the village. Its name comes from the Occitan Pèirapertusés, meaning "pierced stone". River and gorges: The Verdouble river flows below the village, creating the scenic Ribaute gorges, which are a popular ecotourism and swimming site.

Cucugnan

Cucugnan is a picturesque traditional French village in the Aude department, southern France, known for its setting in the Corbières Massif, the imposing ruins of the medieval Château de Quéribus overlooking it, and its literary connection to Alphonse Daudet's "Letters from my Windmill". The village features quaint stone houses, narrow cobbled streets, and surrounding hills offering hiking and biking trails, alongside world-class wineries and rich biodiversity. Location & Geography Located in the Aude department, southern France, it sits in a valley within the Corbières Massif. The region boasts a Mediterranean-influenced climate, suitable for viticulture. History The village was destroyed by the Spanish in 1495, and the current village was built below the ruins of a medieval castrum that developed around a castle. Cucugnan is famously mentioned in Alphonse Daudet's "Letters from my Windmill," a classic work of French literature. Landmarks & Attractions Château de Quéribus: A dramatic medieval fortress perched on a rocky outcrop overlooking the village and offering panoramic views. It was a significant Cathar stronghold.
