Duilhac-sous-Peyrepertuse is a picturesque village in the Occitanie region of southern France, known primarily as the gateway to the magnificent Cathar fortress, Château de Peyrepertuse. The village itself is built on a rocky spur and overlooks a small valley filled with vineyards.
Location: The village is nestled in the High Corbières mountains in the Aude department, surrounded by scrubland and vineyards.
Château de Peyrepertuse: The medieval castle dominates the skyline, perched high on a limestone ridge about 800 meters above the village. Its name comes from the Occitan Pèirapertusés, meaning "pierced stone".
River and gorges: The Verdouble river flows below the village, creating the scenic Ribaute gorges, which are a popular ecotourism and swimming site.
